1. Despite the growth of urban areas, many people are not able to satisfy their primary needs, while non-essential needs are created.
• Extreme poverty – sometimes ignored for personal and business motives.
• Too much being profit-oriented.
2. People are experiencing a new loneliness in an anonymous world.
• Feeling alone and isolated; like a stranger
• The world is not the same world as before, due to a lot of changes that occurred.
• Changes in the standards of society
• Changes in values
3. The weak become victims of dehumanizing living conditions.
• Abuses of power and authority
• The weak has to deal with fewer options. Sometimes they have to be in dehumanizing living conditions just to survive.
4. The Christian must share in the task of creating new types of neighbourliness, relationships and social justice in a world undergoing rapid urbanization. The Christian must bring a message of hope to the city.
• Urbanization brings a lot of difficult challenges in order to survive the demanding world.
• People, sometimes, become focused on those that will only benefit them, ignoring their responsibility to others.
• Hope anchors us to desire heaven – where we can achieve true happiness far above from earthly desires.
5. Youth with their aspirations, renewal and insecurities find dialogue with adults difficult.
• Gap among parents and children.
• Thinking that they will just be reprimanded
• Parents being too busy – youth tends to think that they’re parents have no time for them.
• Youth misinterpreting what parents tell and show.
6. Legislation is needed to protect and recognize women’s independence and rights to participate in social, cultural , economic and political life.
• Against women discrimination
• Women empowerment
• Not just legislation; people must recognize the worth of woman as an individual and must show respect.
• But, somehow, legislation would lessen the problems implicating women.
7. Every person has the right to work and to just wages. Unions are important to protect their rights, but must also act responsibly.
• Unjust labor practices
• Be informed of what they are fighting for; also know what they are to do to contribute to the betterment of the business, that would, in turn, lead to more benefits for them.
8. The “New Poor” created by urbanization namely the handicapped, elderly and marginalized have to be protected in a competitive society.
• Challenge of survival given different changes
• Weak – being seen as not useful
9. Discrimination based on race, origin, color, culture, sex or religion still exist and cannot be justified.
• Being bias and subjective of their being
• Not being sensitive to the feelings of others
10. Emigration is a right. People have to go beyond narrow nationalistic attitudes.
• Countries being too strict of their immigration policy – security and other motives.
• Be accepted by other cultures.
11. Employment must be urgently created through an effective investment policy, education and organization of production and trade.
• High unemployment rate
12. Managers of social communication media have the moral responsibility to promote the common good.
• Their being influential to people
• Should be careful on
WHAT they communicate
HOW they communicate
TO WHOM they communicate
13. All people have a responsibility to protect the environment.
• The environment provides for us; it also has limits, especially when abused.
• We are stewards of God’s creation, therefore, we must take good care of it.
As noted in Populorum
Progressio, the Church
desires to see the full
flowering of people.
Scientific advances an
important element in this
mission, and although they
cannot give a complete
picture of humankind, they
have a positive impact on
humanity.
To solve the multitude of
problems facing humanity
today the Church must be
vigilant works for the
common good. There must
be a greater justice in
sharing of goods nationally
and internationally.
• The goal of political power must be the common good, but in the political process there is often a legitimate variety of possible options.
• The same Christian faith can lead to different commitments. Christians must be involved in the building up of a just world at the local level in their communities.
