A call to action

CALL TO ACTION
"The Pope points out that
 economic activity is necessary
but it runs the risk of taking up
too much strength and freedom.
Thus the need is felt to pass from
economics to politics, so that the
action pope is calling for is
political action. The passing to
the political dimension
expresses a demand made by
people today: a greater sharing
in responsibility and in
decision-making."

1. The hierarchy has the duty to teach and interpret authentically the norms of morality, and the lay person, a personal responsibility based on faith and hope, to infuse the Christian spirit into the temporal order.

2. The Christian must make a wise choice in accordance with his/her faith and avoid the danger of group selfishness and oppressive totalitarianism.

3. Christians have the task to inspire and help evolve structures to meet the real needs of today.

4. Christian organizations have a responsibility for collective action for transforming society.

5. The aim of this letter is to “awaken the People of God to a full understanding of its role at the present time” and “of promoting the apostolate on the international level.”
