1. The aspiration to equality and the aspiration to
participation, two forms of man's dignity and freedom.
2. Legislation is necessary, but it is not sufficient for
setting up true relationships of justice and equity.
3. Only a deep feeling of respect for and service to others
can lead to charity, preferential respect for the
poor, and solidarity.
4. The aspirations of equality and participation through
search, and not ideology, promotes a democratic type of society.
5. Political activity should be consistent with the total
vocation of humankind.
6. Both Marxist and Liberal ideologies go against Christian
faith and concept of man and woman.
7. Social ideology, whether theoretical or active strategy,
can alienate human beings, and is incompatible with the Christian faith.
8. There
is the danger that people’s desire to serve can be consumed by an ideology
which, even if it suggests certain paths to liberation, ends up by making
man/woman a slave.
9. Ideological
teachings remain always the same. However, historical movements, while
originating from these teachings, can be subjected to changes. Historical
movements can contain positive elements.
10. Certain features of socialism are attractive,
but Christians must critique their appeal in the light of faith.
11. There are several interpretations of Marxism,
but historically it has led to totalitarianism and violence.
12. Liberation promotes economic efficiency but
distorts human nature.
13. Christians need to carefully discern these
different ideologies in the light of their faith and Church teachings.
14. Bureaucratic socialism, technocratic
capitalism and authoritarian democracy have not solved the great human problem
of living together in justice and equality.
15. Humans have become objects of science, that lacks a
total picture of humanity. Christians need to enter into a dialogue.
